ВСПЛЕСК ИНТЕРЕСА ВЕНГЕРСКИХ КНИЖНИКОВ К НАРОДАМ ВОСТОЧНОЙ ЕВРОПЫ В ПЕРВЫЕ ГОДЫ ПРАВЛЕНИЯ БЕЛЫ IV

Начало правления Белы IV отмечено небывалым интересом венгерских книжников к народам Восточной Европы, вызванным 1) попытками найти потомков мадьяр, некогда оставшихся в Поволжье; 2) нарастанием угрозы вторжения с востока степных орд, вылившейся в поход Бату в Венгрию 1241–1242 гг. Ни до, ни после первого десятилетия правления Белы IV в венгерских нарративных источниках не уделялось такого внимания половцам и жителям Юго-Западной Руси, как в то время. С созданием Золотой Орды интерес венгерских книжников к Восточной Европе угас.

SURGE OF HUNGARIAN SCRIBES’ INTEREST IN THE PEOPLES OF EASTERN EUROPE IN THE EARLY REIGN OF BELA IV

The beginning of the reign of Bela IV was marked by the unprecedented interest of Hungarian scribes in the peoples of Eastern Europe, caused by 1) attempts to find descendants of the Magyars who had once remained in the Volga region; 2) the growing threat of invasion from the east by steppe hordes, which resulted in the Batu campaign in Hungary in 1241–1242. Neither before nor after the first decade of Bela IV’s reign did Hungarian narrative sources pay as much attention to the Polovtsians and the inhabitants of southwestern Russia as they did at that time. With the creation of the Golden Horde, the Hungarian scribes’ interest in Eastern Europe waned.
